West Tennessee Clean Cities Coalition

About Us

firefox-gray The West Tennessee Clean Cities Coalition (WTCCC) was formally launched in July of 2005 after two years of work by the Clean Cities of Middle Tennessee (CCMT) and local stakeholders. Since its inception WTCCC has propelled the renewable fuels and clean transportation technologies forward in West Tennessee through a series of exciting projects involving some of the biggest government entities and private corporations.

The Clean Cities program was started by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 1992 to help large cities around the country meet the expectations of the EPACT mandates. Since then, more than 80 Clean Cities Coalitions have been designated and are helping their regions by facilitating the use of alternative fuels, alternative fuel vehicles (AFV’s), and the expansion of the AFV-refueling infrastructure.

Clean Cities coordinators are helping create market demand for a new industry and acting as consultants for a wide variety of businesses, government agencies, farmers, entrepreneurs, fuel producers, marketers, distributors, and retailers. Clean Cities programs operate with funding from both state and federal grants combined with stakeholder support. Since 1992 the Clean Cities programs around the country have worked together to help displace over a billion gallons of petroleum and have subsequently helped sell over a billion gallons of alternative fuels.

After several years of diligent groundwork, WTCCC was launched using federal (DOE) funds through the Tennessee State Energy Office. An executive director was hired and several initial meetings have been scheduled. Since its inception WTCCC has had stakeholder involvement from a number of large public and private entities.

WTCCC is joined in this effort by its sister organizations – the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition and the Clean Cities of Middle Tennessee.
