Renewable Energy Options For The State Of Tennessee
August 30th, 2011
There are many different types of renewable energy that the state of Tennessee has begun to utilize regularly. Being able to step away from the massive dependency on foreign oil consumption is paramount and it appears that Tennessee officials are starting to do just that. While there are still millions of people who depend on gasoline, at least a large minority of people are starting to look into sources like wind and solar energy.
Tennessee actually ranks number 25 in installed wind power nationwide. The whole story can be found at http://windconcernsontario.wordpress.com/2011/08/20/sanity-prevails-in-quebec-wind-farm-south-of-montreal-scrapped/ With almost 30 megawatts in capacity and a moderate potential capacity of 186 megawatts, the state is changing the energy game in a very big way. Tennessee also has one complete wind farm which is shared by two owners. All of the power generated from this farm is sold to the Tennessee Valley Authority.
In order to generate the required amount of electricity for the TVA Green Power Switch program, they have installed many photovoltaic arrays throughout Tennessee. Many of these arrays are positioned at sites which can be viewed by the public, in hopes of teaching many residents about the benefits of solar power. The total combined capacity of these arrays is over 300 kilowatts of power.
